EmpowerHer Borehole (WASH)

Today, 1 in 10 people still struggle to access clean, safe water. We are dedicated to making a difference every day because we believe in the life-changing power of water. Join us in transforming communities with safe access to clean water.

Access to safe water has the power to transform lives. It means more time for education and work and improved health for women, children, and families worldwide. To effectively manage their menstruation, girls and women require access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities; affordable and appropriate menstrual hygiene materials; information on good practices; and a supportive environment where they can manage menstruation without embarrassment or stigma. Our EmpowerHer International Foundation focuses on increasing access to safe, affordable, and sustainable drinking water, with a special emphasis on the needs of vulnerable girls and women. To expand our impact, NLS collaborates with Team CSR-Ghana to drill boreholes, making a significant difference in our communities, and aligns with our EmpowerHer Borehole - Period Poverty/Period Dignity Campaign.

Shocking statistics reveal that millions lack access to safe drinking water, with dire consequences, particularly for children. It is our mission to change this. We aim to construct at least seven boreholes, one each year, in honor of our seven founders throughout the African countries where we serve and have active members: Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Cape Verde.

Since 2021, the Nu Lambda Sigma chapter has constructed 7 boreholes in Ghana and 1 in Nigeria with support from the Life Members group of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
